MOGADISHU — The Somali National Army (SNA) has reported significant victories against Al-Shabaab following two separate security operations in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
Security officials confirmed that a combined total of 19 militants were neutralized in the operations, which targeted combatants attempting to ambush civilian transport and plant explosive devices along major supply routes.
Airstrike in Middle Shabelle
In the first incident, the SNA, supported by international partners, conducted a precision airstrike targeting militants in the Middle Shabelle region.
The operation specifically focused on the road connecting Masaajid Ali Gaduud and Daaru Salaam, where intelligence indicated combatants were installing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
According to the Ministry of Defence, the strike successfully eliminated 15 militants. A vehicle being used to deploy the explosives, along with its weaponry, was completely destroyed.
Ground Ambush in Hiiraan
Simultaneously, SNA forces operating alongside local Macawiisley community fighters conducted a successful ground operation on Tuesday evening in the Hiiraan region.
Security sources reported that joint forces intercepted a group of militants in the area between Yasooman and Moqokori. The troops ambushed the insurgents as they prepared to attack civilian vehicles.
The engagement resulted in the deaths of four militants and the destruction of their vehicle. Officials stated that these coordinated actions are part of continued initiatives to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure the safety of the Somali people.
