SNA Recaptures Rageh-Ele with the Help of AMISOM

Somali National Army (SNA) has recaptured Rageh-Ele with assistance from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

SNA and AMISOM troops launched a military operation in the region on January 23.

Rageh-Ele, which is roughly 90kms away from Mogadishu, has been in the hands of Al-Shabaab militants for quite some time.

However, on Saturday, the extremists fled from the region once SNA and AMISOM troops arrived in the region to engage them in a heavy gunfight.

SNA first liberated the region from the control of Al-Shabaab six years ago.

Later, Al-Shabaab assumed control after defeating government and continental troops.

For years, Al-Shabaab has been fighting federal government troops in Somalia with the intention of taking over the entire country.

AMISOM troops are in Somalia to help the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to eliminate the militants from the country.
