On Saturday, Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers liberated and recaptured a key region in Lower Shabelle from the control of Al-Shabaab.
Members of the Al-Qaeda linked group had been in control of Jana Abdalle, a region that is 60kms away from Kismayo in Lower Juba for years.
However, they lost control of the region when the SNA soldiers conducted a military operation.
According to top commanders of the military, the SNA officers killed several militants while many others were captured alive.
Jana Abdalle has been a lucrative region for the extremists.
They use it as a revenue source by collecting fees from human and motorized traffic. Al-Shabaab transformed it into a toll station that they use to raise funds for their activities.
Reports from the military did not provide the exact number of militants either killed or injured in today’s successful operation.
