Somali National Army (SNA) troops killed five militants outside Dinsor town, a village in the Bay Region on January 30.
A military officer confirmed the news to the media on Saturday.
According to the officer, the SNA troops held a military operation following a tipoff by villagers.
Ibrahim Aden, the Area Operations Commander, said that they received information that the militants were planning to attack one of the nearby villages.
He promised that the army would intensify its operations against the Al-Shabaab.
In the towns, the military has stepped up its operations against the extremists. However, the situation is quite different in rural areas where the militants remain in control.
