SNA Vows to Intensify Operations Against Al-Shabaab Following Assassination Attempt on President Mohamud

The Somali National Army (SNA) has issued a press statement vowing to intensify operations against the militant group Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle region and achieving significant successes in the process.

In a notable operation, over 70 Al-Shabaab militants, including senior commanders, were killed as government forces advanced to reclaim territory from the extremist group.

In a retaliatory move, Al-Shabaab targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s convoy in Mogadishu on March 18, 2025.

A roadside bomb exploded near the presidential palace as the convoy was en route to the main airport.

The President was unharmed and continued his journey to oversee military operations against Al-Shabaab.

Witnesses reported at least three fatalities at the scene.

These events highlight the ongoing efforts of Somali forces to combat Al-Shabaab and the group’s attempts to destabilize the region through targeted attacks.
