Galguduud, Somalia – The Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), working in close coordination with international partners, carried out a targeted operation on Saturday, 20 September 2025, in Nooleye village, Galguduud region.
The pre-planned offensive struck positions used by Al-Shabaab militants. Preliminary assessments indicate that at least four fighters linked to the extremist group were killed. Weapons and other materials believed to have been used in attacks against civilians and government positions were also seized during the raid.
The mission was designed to degrade Al-Shabaab’s ability to operate in the area, where the militants have been using rural settlements in Galguduud as staging grounds for attacks across central Somalia.
The operation forms part of an intensified campaign by Somali security forces, supported by international allies, to dismantle both Al-Shabaab and ISIS cells operating in the country. Over the past months, joint offensives have been stepped up in central and southern regions, where the insurgents continue to mount ambushes, bombings, and extortion activities.
Somali authorities stressed that the fight against terrorism remains a national priority. The government’s strategy combines military offensives, community engagement, and regional cooperation to weaken extremist networks.
The Galguduud operation comes as Somali forces continue to press ahead with their broader security plan to reclaim areas still under militant influence. While Al-Shabaab remains capable of carrying out deadly attacks, sustained coordination between Somali forces and international partners is steadily shrinking the group’s operational space.
