MOGADISHU – The Somali National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) took center stage at the Government’s Exhibition this week, highlighting the transformative role of data in shaping the country’s future. The event, organized to review three years of progress under the Dan-Qaran initiative, featured SNBS’s remarkable achievements between 2022 and 2025.
The Bureau presented nearly 30 high-quality statistical reports covering critical areas such as economic growth, social and demographic trends, financial systems, food security, production, and governance. These outputs ranged from large-scale national surveys to concise policy briefs and statistical bulletins, underscoring the institution’s commitment to producing reliable and timely data for decision-makers.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, toured the SNBS pavilion and received a detailed briefing from Deputy Director General Abdirahman Omar Dahir. The President praised the Bureau’s progress, describing it as “a cornerstone for Somalia’s long-term transformation.”
Officials noted that SNBS data has become integral to the design and monitoring of Somalia’s National Transformation Plan, a framework aimed at sustainable development and institutional strengthening. The Bureau’s work also aligns with Vision 2060, the country’s long-term strategy for prosperity, while complementing continental and global development agendas, including the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“This is not just about numbers — it is about building trust, accountability, and evidence-based policymaking. Our mission is to ensure that statistics serve as a tool for growth and resilience in Somalia,” said Dahir.
The showcase underscored the growing recognition of statistics as a driver of national development, as Somalia works to solidify stability, expand public services, and foster economic opportunity across all regions.
