SoDMA Asks IGAD for Help in Disaster Risk Management

Mohamud Moalim, the head of Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), held discussions with Dr. Ahmed Amdihun of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Kuwait.

This marks a significant step toward strengthening disaster risk management in the region.

Their agreement to enhance data exchange and organize a bilateral meeting between Somalia and Ethiopia underscores a collaborative approach to reducing disaster risks and improving early warning systems.

This initiative is crucial for the Horn of Africa, a region frequently affected by droughts, floods, and other climate-related disasters.

By fostering cooperation and sharing data, the two nations can better anticipate and respond to emergencies, ultimately saving lives and mitigating the impact of disasters on vulnerable communities.

Such regional partnerships are essential for building resilience and ensuring sustainable development in the face of increasing climate challenges.
