Mahamuud Moalim, the head of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and Somali religious scholars held a meeting with the new Palestinian Ambassador to Somalia, Rowaid Adil Mohamed.
Their meeting in Mogadishu on Tuesday highlights Somalia’s ongoing support for the Palestinian cause.
The discussions likely focused on ways Somalia can assist Palestinians affected by ongoing conflicts, as well as reaffirming Somalia’s solidarity with efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state.
Such diplomatic engagements underscore the historical and political ties between Somalia and Palestine, rooted in shared experiences of conflict and a commitment to self-determination.
Somalia’s stance aligns with broader African and Arab support for Palestinian statehood, reflecting a long-standing position within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the African Union (AU).
This meeting also signifies the importance of humanitarian cooperation, particularly through SoDMA, which may explore avenues to provide aid or advocacy for Palestinians impacted by violence and displacement.
It further emphasizes the role of religious scholars in fostering unity and moral support for global Muslim causes.
