SoDMA Chief Discusses Humanitarian Situation in Somalia with Conway and Rukasha

The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim, recently met with George Conway, the United Nations Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG), and Crispen Rukasha from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Somalia.

Their discussions focused on addressing Somalia’s ongoing humanitarian challenges and enhancing collaboration on relief efforts.

In January 2025, SoDMA and the UN jointly launched the 2025 Humanitarian Needs Response Plan for Somalia, aiming to assist approximately 5.98 million people in urgent need due to prolonged drought and conflict. The plan requires $1.42 billion to provide essential support.

Earlier, in July 2024, SoDMA and UN officials discussed coordinating the upcoming National Humanitarian Forum, emphasizing the importance of unified actions and comprehensive planning to address aid diversion and stabilization efforts.

These engagements underscore the commitment of SoDMA and international partners to collaboratively address Somalia’s humanitarian needs through coordinated relief efforts and strategic planning.
