SoDMA Holds Conference in Nairobi on Reducing Impact of Drought in Somalia

A 5-day conference in Nairobi, Kenya, organized by the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) was launched by the agency’s chief, Mahamuud Abdulle Moallim on Monday.

The conference is a significant step toward addressing the critical issue of drought in Somalia.

It brings together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to develop actionable plans aimed at mitigating the risks associated with drought, which continues to severely impact the region.

They will prioritise developing strategies to strengthen communities’ ability to withstand and recover from drought conditions.

Stakeholders will endeavour to identify sustainable solutions for water conservation, distribution, and utilization to ensure long-term water security.

Participants will seek to foster partnerships between governments, NGOs, and international organizations to pool resources and expertise.

It will focus on creating actionable policies and frameworks that can be implemented at both national and regional levels to combat drought.

This initiative underscores the urgency of addressing drought-related challenges in Somalia, where recurring droughts have led to food insecurity, displacement, and economic instability.

By focusing on resilience and water management, the conference aims to lay the groundwork for more sustainable and effective responses to future droughts.
