Mogadishu – The Commissioner of the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim, held a high-level meeting with representatives from Saudi relief institutions on Thursday to strengthen coordination and accelerate humanitarian responses in Somalia’s most vulnerable areas.
The talks brought together Yazid Abdalla Hamoud, head of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) in Somalia, and Abdirahman Abdirizak of the Tadaamun Agency, a long-standing partner in delivering relief services across the country.
According to SoDMA, discussions focused on scaling up emergency aid delivery to communities facing food insecurity, displacement, and climate-driven shocks. The leaders agreed on the need for faster and more effective deployment of humanitarian assistance, particularly in hard-to-reach regions where aid access is frequently disrupted by insecurity and poor infrastructure.
Commissioner Moallim praised the role of Saudi Arabia through KSRelief and its implementing partners, noting that their continued support has been critical in alleviating suffering caused by drought, floods, and conflict.
“Stronger coordination means saving more lives,” he said, emphasizing the urgency of speeding up response timelines and ensuring that aid reaches the most at-risk populations.
Hamoud reaffirmed KSRelief’s commitment to Somalia, underscoring that Saudi-backed humanitarian programs remain aligned with the Somali government’s disaster management strategy. Meanwhile, Tadaamun Agency pledged to enhance its field operations and logistical capacity to close gaps in emergency response.
The meeting comes at a time when Somalia is facing a fragile humanitarian situation, with millions in need of assistance due to the lingering effects of recurrent droughts, floods, and ongoing insecurity.
