SOGPA Founder Urges Somalis to Embrace Environmental Protection

Hassan Mowlid Yasin, one of the founders of Somali Greenpeace Association (SOGPA), has urged more Somalis to embrace environmental protection.

According to Yasin, Somalis can’t afford to ignore environmental issues any more.

He cited the example of issues such as deforestation, which affects close to 80 percent of the lands in the country.

SOGPA seeks to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of the environment.

Yasin called upon Somalis in the country to beware of the impact of climate change.

He cites floods, droughts, water shortages, and food insecurity as examples of the effect of climate change in Somalia.

Consequently, he warns that conflicts could arise as different groups in the country fight for the scarce resources.

One of the solutions that SOGPA’s co-founder recommends is more people finding ways of protecting the environment in Somalia.
