SOLJA Asks Government to Remove Police Officers from TV Stations

Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) has asked the government to remove police officers from local TV stations.

SOLJA condemned the increased presence of police officers in TV stations.

Recently, police officers were at the offices of Universal TV and Star TV, which are two of the country’s independent TV stations.

SOLJA says police officers failed to show any court warrant that justified their presence at the TV offices.

Furthermore, SOLJA condemned the government for failing to provide any kind of legal document legitimizing the action they took to close the two TV stations.

Mohamud Abdi Jama, the Chairman of SOLJA, reiterated his organization’s stance against any form of suppression of the independence of the media within the country.
