Somalia’s Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and Uganda’s Defense Minister Jacob Markson Oboth Oboth held a meeting on Friday to discuss wide-ranging issues.
They emphasized the importance of a seamless transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the newly established African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) by January 1, 2025.
Both ministers called upon the international community to provide robust support in strengthening Somali forces’ capabilities, ensuring AUSSOM’s smooth exit from the country.
Additionally, they agreed to hold a follow-up meeting in Mogadishu from November 15-17, 2024, to further advance their collaborative efforts in reinforcing security and stability in Somalia.
