Somali Army Captures Boats and Weapons from Al-Shabaab

On Thursday, Somalia National Army (SNA) captured boats and weapons belonging to Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle.

According to the officials from the military, Al-Shabaab militants had used the boats to cross River Lower Shabelle.

The government troops believe the extremists were on a mission to attack SNA barracks in the region.

Government soldiers captured the militia during an operation organized to boost security in Lower Shabelle.

Meanwhile, authorities announced that the military also repulsed a raid by the Al-Qaeda linked group in an Awdhegle army base today.

Brig. Gen. Abdihamid Mohamed Dirir, the Commander of Somali National Army’s Land Forces, said that government troops killed dozens of Al-Shabaab militia.

Brig. Gen. Dirir announced that government soldiers had also captured a cache of weapons from the extremist group.
