Somali Army Commander Holds Talks with Italian Defense Attaché to Boost Military Ties

MOGADISHU — The Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud, recently held a high-level strategic meeting with the Defense Attaché at the Italian Embassy in Somalia, Captain (Navy) Antonino Mazzocca.

The diplomatic discussions, which took place in the capital, centered on reinforcing and significantly advancing the vital military collaboration between the two nations.

Expanding Training and Equipment Support

During the exchange, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim conveyed deep gratitude to the Italian government for its ongoing, multifaceted support of the Somali National Army. He specifically highlighted Rome’s crucial role in providing advanced tactical training, essential equipment provision, and long-term capacity-building for Somalia’s armed forces.

This engagement builds directly upon previous high-level defense dialogues between Somali leadership and Captain Mazzocca. It reinforces Italy’s position as a cornerstone partner in Somalia’s broader security sector reform and its ongoing transition toward assuming full national security responsibilities.

A Shared Commitment to Stability

In response to the Commander’s remarks, Captain Antonino Mazzocca firmly confirmed Italy’s continued, unwavering commitment to supporting and cooperating with the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Italian Attaché highlighted the absolute significance of achieving lasting peace and stability. He noted that a highly trained and well-equipped Somali National Army is foundational not only for the nation’s immediate security but also for its long-term developmental progress. This meeting aligns with a broader strategic push by the SNA Commander to solidify international defense partnerships amid ongoing national counter-terrorism offensives.
