Somali Army Graduates New Cadet Officers at Balidogle Academy

Balidogle, Somalia Chief of the National Armed Forces, General Odowaa Yusuf Rage, on Monday presided over the graduation ceremony of a new batch of officer cadets at the Hassan Tuure Training Academy in Balidogle.

The cadets, who completed an intensive commando program, were hailed by Gen. Odowaa as a vital addition to Somalia’s military strength. He described their achievement as a “milestone in the ongoing journey of building a stronger, more professional Somali National Army (SNA).”

During the ceremony, the Chief of Defense emphasized the importance of discipline, patriotism, and continued professional development for the newly commissioned officers. He noted that the specialized commando training equips them with the tactical skills needed to lead troops effectively in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the country.

The Hassan Tuure Academy, located at the Balidogle military base in Lower Shabelle, has become one of the key institutions shaping Somalia’s next generation of military leaders. It has been central to reforms aimed at modernizing the SNA and improving its operational readiness against threats posed by extremist groups such as Al-Shabaab.

The graduation comes at a critical time as the SNA assumes increasing responsibility for national security, with African Union forces gradually handing over bases as part of the ATMIS drawdown. Military officials expressed confidence that the new officers will strengthen command structures and help sustain the momentum of ongoing operations.

The event concluded with a parade showcasing the cadets’ skills and a reaffirmation of their oath to serve and protect the Somali nation.
