Somali Cabinet Approves Establishment of New Electoral Body

The Somali Council of Ministers has approved a draft bill to establish the Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission (INEBC).

For years, the nation relied on the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) but this will change with the establishment of INEBC.

The new electoral commission would be responsible for registration of new voters and take charge of all polls in the East African nation.

Additionally, during an extraordinary meeting in Mogadishu on Friday evening, the council issued a resolution aimed at strengthening the management of weapons and ammunition.

These measures are part of broader efforts to enhance governance, ensure fair electoral processes, and improve security in Somalia by better controlling the proliferation of arms.
