Mogadishu, Somalia – In a significant move to enhance bilateral relations and workforce development, the Federal Government of Somalia has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on labor cooperation with Türkiye.
The decision was made during the Council of Ministers’ weekly meeting held earlier today and chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre. The agreement marks a strategic step toward bolstering labor mobility, technical cooperation, and employment opportunities for Somali nationals in Türkiye.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the MoU seeks to empower Somalia’s workforce by promoting skill development, sharing best practices in vocational training, and facilitating labor exchange programs. The partnership also aligns with Somalia’s broader national goals of reducing unemployment, improving human capital, and accelerating economic recovery.
Officials highlighted the agreement as a continuation of the deep-rooted diplomatic and development cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye, which spans education, healthcare, infrastructure, and humanitarian support.
The government affirmed its commitment to ensuring that Somali workers deployed abroad receive fair treatment and are protected under international labor standards. More details on implementation frameworks and timelines are expected in the coming weeks.
