The Council of Ministers discussed the impending complete withdrawal of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops from the country.
Ministers met under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Thursday.
In today’s weekly cabinet meeting, the ministers discussed the post-ATMIS plans for security around the country.
ATMIS will pull all its troops from the country by December 31, 2024.
A multinational force, probably under the leadership of the United Nations, will then take over.
However, several Somali leaders have called for the transfer of all security functions to the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) and the Somali Police Force (SPF).
The ministers praised the military for the ongoing counterterrorism operations around the country.
