Cairo, Egypt – Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Jibril Abdirashid Haji, paid a visit to the country’s embassy headquarters in Cairo on Thursday, underscoring Mogadishu’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Egypt and supporting its citizens abroad.
The Deputy Prime Minister was warmly received by Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ali Abdi Awaare, along with senior embassy staff. The visit highlighted the embassy’s ongoing efforts to provide assistance to Somali nationals in Egypt, many of whom are students, businesspeople, and members of the diaspora community.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed current diplomatic initiatives and reaffirmed the importance of advancing Somalia’s international engagement. Deputy Prime Minister Haji praised the embassy’s role as a bridge between Mogadishu and Cairo, emphasizing that its work is critical not only in deepening state-to-state cooperation but also in safeguarding the interests of Somali citizens living in Egypt.
Amb. Awaare welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister’s visit as a strong signal of the government’s attention to its overseas missions. He reiterated the embassy’s readiness to continue providing consular services and to strengthen collaboration with Egyptian authorities in areas of mutual interest, including trade, education, and cultural exchange.
Somalia and Egypt have historically maintained close diplomatic relations, and Thursday’s meeting reaffirmed both governments’ shared goal of expanding cooperation at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.
