Somali Entrepreneurs Shine at Nairobi MSME Fair in Historic First

Nairobi, Kenya – For the first time, Somalia has joined the annual Jumuiya MSME Trade Fair, marking a milestone for the country’s growing private sector. Twenty-eight Somali entrepreneurs showcased their innovations in agribusiness and technology at the bustling event in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, drawing attention from regional investors and international development partners.

The vibrant Somali pavilion, alive with products ranging from organic honey and camel milk products to digital payment platforms and irrigation tech solutions, captured the spirit of a nation redefining its economic identity. Many of the entrepreneurs, mostly youth and women-led business owners, expressed pride in representing Somalia on such a regional stage, emphasizing how innovation and resilience are driving a new generation of business leaders.

The event also underscored the European Union’s continued partnership with Somalia’s private sector through its Global Gateway initiative, which focuses on creating sustainable trade and investment opportunities. EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, attended the fair, reaffirming Europe’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation in the Horn of Africa nation.

Somalia’s participation at the trade fair symbolizes more than just economic ambition—it reflects a country steadily moving toward self-reliance, regional integration, and job creation after years of instability. The entrepreneurs’ presence in Nairobi not only opened doors to new markets but also projected a story of determination and transformation that resonates across East Africa’s growing MSME landscape.

As the fair continues, Somalia’s delegation is expected to engage in networking sessions, explore export partnerships, and share lessons on resilience and innovation in challenging environments. Their participation sends a clear message: Somalia’s private sector is ready to compete, connect, and contribute to the region’s shared prosperity.
