Vienna, Austria – Somalia’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Amb. Khadra Duale, today officially presented her credentials to IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.
The ceremony, held at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna, marked Somalia’s strengthened engagement with the UN’s nuclear watchdog. Amb. Duale conveyed the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to closer cooperation with the agency, particularly in the fields of nuclear safety, energy development, agriculture, and medical applications of nuclear technology.
Director General Grossi welcomed Somalia’s active role within the IAEA and reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to support Somalia in harnessing peaceful nuclear science and technology for sustainable development.
Amb. Duale, in her remarks, highlighted Somalia’s priorities in public health, food security, and environmental management—areas where IAEA technical expertise has proven critical for many developing nations. She also emphasized Somalia’s interest in building national capacity through training, technology transfer, and regional partnerships under the agency’s programs.
Today’s presentation further strengthens Somalia’s diplomatic footprint within multilateral organizations and reinforces its pursuit of science-driven development solutions.
