Somali Football Federation Elections Cancelled

Elections to elect the new leadership of the Somali Football Federation (SFF) will now not take place as originally scheduled.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Internal Security called off the elections.

The suspension took effect a few hours before the SFF was to elect new leadership on January 31 at Mogadishu’s Hotel Elite.

A statement from the internal security ministry says that the suspension was necessary following issues that the Minister of Youth and Sports raised.

The youth and sports ministry feared that SFF intended to conduct two separate elections.

SFF is divided right down the middle.

Several SFF members had accused their President Ali Abdi Mohamed of planning a “fixed” election, which would see him emerge victorious.
