Abdulkadir Mohamed Farah, a Somali football legend, contracted Coronavirus and later died, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today.
Somali Football Federation (SFF) also confirmed the sad news.
Farah died while undergoing treatment at a London hospital. His death came only a week after testing positive to the virus that has spread into more than 150 countries around the world.
Before his death, the 59-year old Farah worked as an advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sport under the Federal Government of Somalia.
Born in Beledweyne, which is around 342kms to the north of Mogadishu, Farah started playing football in 1976 when he played for his school in a national football tournament.
Farah becomes the first football star in Africa to die of Coronavirus. Worldwide, the pandemic has claimed over 20,000 lives and infected close to half-a-million people.
