Somali Forces Foil Al-Shabaab Ambush in Mogadishu’s Kaxda District

Mogadishu, Somalia – Security forces in Somalia successfully repelled an Al-Shabaab ambush on a checkpoint in Mogadishu’s Kaxda district late Tuesday night, averting what could have been another deadly attack in the capital.

According to security officials, the militants opened fire on the checkpoint using small arms and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), sparking a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. The attack occurred near one of the main security outposts on the outskirts of the district, a flashpoint area that has witnessed sporadic insurgent activity in recent months.

Residents described hearing a series of loud explosions that shook nearby homes, followed by sustained gunfire lasting several minutes. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported among security personnel or civilians.

The foiled assault underscores the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab, which continues to target government positions and security checkpoints around Mogadishu despite ongoing military pressure. The Somali National Army, backed by local police and community defense units, has intensified patrols in the area to prevent further attacks.

While calm had largely returned to Kaxda by early morning, residents remained anxious, wary of renewed violence.

The latest incident comes as Somali forces, supported by international partners, continue a nationwide offensive aimed at reclaiming remaining militant strongholds and restoring stability to the capital and beyond.
