Somali Forces Foil Al-Shabaab Ambush in Mogadishu’s Kaxda District

Mogadishu, Somalia –  Security forces in Somalia on Thursday night successfully repelled an attempted ambush by Al-Shabaab militants targeting a security checkpoint in Mogadishu’s Kaxda district, officials confirmed.

The attack, which occurred shortly after sunset, sent waves of tension through the neighborhood as residents reported hearing several loud explosions believed to be rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and bursts of heavy gunfire. Security officers at the scene, however, managed to hold their ground and swiftly pushed back the assailants before they could breach the checkpoint.

According to a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media, the militants attacked from multiple directions, trying to overwhelm the forces stationed at the post.

Local residents described a tense night marked by confusion and fear.

Authorities confirmed there were no casualties among civilians or security forces. The attackers reportedly fled toward the outskirts of the district after their failed attempt.

Kaxda, a rapidly growing area on the southwestern edge of Mogadishu, has in recent months seen an increased security presence following a series of intelligence warnings about possible militant activity. Thursday night’s incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab, even as government forces continue to make gains across several regions.

Security officials praised the vigilance of the troops on duty and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the capital.

The brief but intense exchange served as a reminder of the resilience of Somalia’s security forces, who continue to face the daily challenge of defending their communities from extremist violence.
