BAY REGION — Somali security forces, operating in close coordination with international military partners, successfully executed a series of targeted airstrike operations early today in the contested Gasarta area, strategically located between Baidoa and Dhuusamareeb in the Bay region.
Neutralizing Militant Capabilities
According to federal security officials, the precision strikes specifically targeted entrenched Al-Shabaab militant positions. The aggressive aerial assault resulted in the confirmed deaths of twelve insurgent fighters, while several others sustained severe injuries during the bombardment.
This localized tactical victory directly builds upon previous, successful ground-based counterterrorism operations conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA) across the broader Bay region, where federal troops have continuously worked to clear out Al-Shabaab strongholds and prevent civilian extortion.
A Coordinated National Security Strategy
The Ministry of Defense noted that these intense aerial efforts are a vital component of ongoing, nationwide combat missions designed to systematically reduce the terrorist group’s operational capabilities and dramatically improve overall civilian security.
The successful deployment of close air support remains a critical force multiplier for Somali ground troops. Similar to historic joint operations in regions like Mudug, where international partners provided devastating air support to eliminate dozens of terrorists, the integration of aerial assets ensures that retreating militant forces have no safe havens.
Somali forces and their international partners remain aggressively committed to continuing these high-intensity operations. By maintaining relentless pressure on Al-Shabaab networks—a strategy perfectly aligned with the recent massive logistical victory securing the critical Mogadishu-Baidoa arterial road—the federal government aims to permanently eliminate symmetric terrorism threats and establish lasting peace and stability throughout the entirety of Somalia.
