The Federal Government of Somalia has confirmed that a high-level Emirati delegation made an unannounced visit to Somalia on Wednesday .
In its statement, the government said that the visit underscores the strengthening of ties between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Somalia.
Led by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, the delegation delivered a message from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, emphasizing the importance of bilateral relations and expressing gratitude towards Somalia.
This visit coincides with recent significant developments in Somalia’s security landscape.
Turkey has recently enhanced Somalia’s military capabilities by deploying advanced Bayraktar Akinci unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) to Mogadishu.
These drones are expected to bolster the Somali National Army’s efforts against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Additionally, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been actively engaging with international partners.
He recently concluded a working visit to the UAE, where he met with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to further strengthen bilateral relations.
These diplomatic efforts are crucial as Somalia continues its operations against Al-Shabaab, especially in light of recent assassination attempts targeting Somali leadership.
The convergence of these events highlights the dynamic geopolitical environment in the Horn of Africa, with Somalia receiving support from key international allies to enhance its security and stability.
