Somali Government Destroys 79 Tons of Bomb-Making Materials

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has confiscated over 79 tons of bomb-making materials in Mogadishu.

According to insiders, Al-Shabaab had imported the materials.

In all likelihood, security officials believe that the Al-Qaeda linked group planned to use the materials to make Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Lately, the militants have planted IEDs all over the country, especially by the roadsides.

NISA identified the material as sulphuric acid. The agency also mentioned that the people who imported it into the country are behind bars awaiting their day in court.

Somalia is gearing up for elections. Local and parliamentary elections are scheduled for December 2020 with presidential polls earmarked for February 2021.
