Somali Government Invites Political Parties to June 15 Talks Amid Tensions

Mogadishu – In a key political move, the Somali government has formally invited all registered political associations for dialogue on June 15, 2025, according to a letter dated June 7 and circulated via the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC).

The talks, initiated by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, aim to advance national reconciliation and political consensus.

However, emerging disagreements over the agenda and the inclusion of critical opposition figures and regional state leaders threaten to undermine the process.

Sources close to the opposition expressed concern that the government’s proposed format lacks inclusivity and transparency, raising fears of a stalled dialogue.

As the scheduled date approaches, political observers remain cautious about whether the meeting can foster genuine progress or deepen existing divides in Somalia’s fragile political landscape.
