Somali Government Launches Campaign to Boost Hospitality Sector with EU Support

At the launch of the Inclusive Tourism Business Platform (ITBP) Membership Campaign in Mogadishu, Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Daud Aweis, announced a significant initiative aimed at revitalizing the nation’s long-dormant tourism and hospitality sector.

With robust support from the European Union, the Federal Government is embarking on a strategic plan to harness Somalia’s untapped tourism potential as a driver for economic growth and international rebranding.

Aweis emphasized that this campaign marks a critical step in restoring investor and public confidence in Somalia’s tourism industry, which has suffered from decades of instability.

The initiative will focus on strengthening tourism infrastructure, enhancing service quality, promoting cultural heritage, and supporting local entrepreneurs in the hospitality value chain.

By investing in tourism, the government seeks not only to generate employment and boost the national economy but also to reshape how Somalia is perceived on the global stage—from a conflict-ridden past to a destination of resilience, rich history, and opportunity.
