Somali Government Ratifies ILO Conventions on Labor Migration

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has ratified International Labor Organization (ILO) Conventions on Labor Migration.

Duran Farah, FGS’ Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, confirmed this news on January 10.

According to Farah, the government opted to ratify and domesticate the ILO conventions for the benefit of Somali laborers.

Specifically, the ratification and domestication of the conventions is designed to enhance and protect the rights of the migrant workers from Somalia.

Farah stated that his ministry would work closely with ILO, Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), and the European Union (EU) to implement the conventions locally.
