Somali Government Recaptures Road Al-Shabaab Controlled for 13 Years

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has recaptured a road that Al-Shabaab has controlled for the last 13 years.

Somali National Army (SNA) troops took control of the road during the ongoing operation against militants in Hiiraan region.

The road connects Bulburde and Beledywene districts in Hiiraan.

Al-Shabaab militants have been in complete control of the road since 2009.

On Wednesday, SNA forces cleared the road of any remaining presence of Al-Shabaab militants with the support of locals.

Senior SNA officers confirmed the latest development to state media.
