Somali Parliament Endorses EASF Agreement During Second Reading

Mogadishu, Somalia – The House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia held its 15th session of the week at the parliamentary headquarters, presided over by Speaker H.E. Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur Madoobe. A total of 140 Members of Parliament attended.

The session focused on the second reading of the Agreement Establishing the East African Standby Force (EASF), prepared by the Ministry of Defense. Having completed its first reading, the agreement was jointly examined by the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee and the Defense Committee.

Parliamentarians reviewed key provisions of the agreement and questioned the State Minister of Defense regarding its relevance and strategic importance to Somalia’s security and regional cooperation.

Concluding the session, Speaker Madoobe instructed the relevant committees to complete preparations for the third reading, enabling the agreement to return for debate and voting.

In the day’s final part, the House of Representatives divided into two sections to advance the second reading of the Medicine Bill, reflecting ongoing legislative efforts across various areas.
