Reports from Mogadishu show that the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF) has allocated $9.26 million to respond to floods around the country.
The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed the news in its briefings on October 20.
According to OCHA, the flood situation in the country continues to worsen during the ongoing Deyr rainy season.
Plenty of rivers in the East African nation are on the verge of bursting their banks.
Consequently, Somalis living around the riverine areas have been encouraged to move to higher grounds for their safety.
Furthermore, the situation is worsened by the present of locusts around the country.
Locusts invaded Somalia in January 2020. Since then, they have created a humanitarian crisis in the form of food insecurity.
Funds from SHF are designed to cushion vulnerable households from food insecurity, starvation, and malnutrition.
