Somali Interior Minister, UK Envoy Hold Talks on Elections and Regional Stability

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Hosh, met with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King, in Mogadishu to discuss pressing national and regional issues, including Somalia’s path toward upcoming elections.

According to officials familiar with the talks, the two sides reviewed progress in the North Eastern State, where political reconciliation and governance reforms are central to Somalia’s broader federalization agenda. The Minister underlined the government’s commitment to ensuring credible and inclusive elections while addressing the challenges of security and administration that continue to shape Somalia’s political transition.

Ambassador King reaffirmed the UK’s partnership with Somalia, noting that London remains a key supporter of governance reforms, electoral processes, and efforts to strengthen federal institutions. Discussions also touched on matters of mutual interest, including regional stability and cooperation with international partners to advance Somalia’s development priorities.

The Interior Ministry has been leading federal-level engagement with member states, particularly in areas related to reconciliation and institution building. The talks with the UK envoy signal Mogadishu’s push to secure international backing as Somalia prepares for critical political milestones in the months ahead.
