Somali Journalists Blocked from Covering Speeches by Presidential Candidates to Lawmakers

Journalists in Somalia were unable to cover the speeches presidential candidates made before parliamentarians in Mogadishu on May 11.

Authorities locked out the journalists from making their way to the exact location where the presentations were being made.

Around 20 presidential candidates presented their manifestos to parliamentarians from the House of the People and Senate on Wednesday.

The first day’s session kicked off at 10am.

It is not yet clear why authorities opted to keep the journalists out of the Airforce Hangar within the compound of the Aden Adde International Airport.
