Somali Military Court Jails an Al-Shabaab Militant Who Attacked a US Base in Kenya

A military court in Somalia has jailed an Al-Shabaab militant who was accused of attacking a US base in Kenya.

Farhan Mohamed Hassan was in court on accusation of being a member of the Al-Qaeda linked group.

Further, he was accused of crossing the border into Kenya to carry out the January 2020 attack at the US base in Lamu, Kenya.

During the daring and deadly attack, a US soldier and two contractors were killed.

The attack was the first of its kind Al-Shabaab had carried out in Kenya against US forces. Often, it attacks Kenyan forces and civilians but never members of the US military.

Hassan was sentenced to life imprisonment after the court determined that he had not only been a member of Al-Shabaab since 2010 but also took part in the January attack.
