The Somali military has launched a fresh offensive against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
On Thursday, the federal Ministry of Defense announced the launching of a fresh phase of the counterterrorism operations in the region.
Sources from the defense ministry confirmed that the operation would mostly be in Garasweyne.
The 9th Brigade of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) will take charge of the latest round of operations.
The offensives started on Wednesday.
SNA forces killed several militants including a senior commander of the terrorist group.
