Military officers in Somalia have been ordered not to participate in the ongoing House of the People (Lower House) elections.
On November 27, the Court of the Armed Forces issued this directive.
Currently, Somalia is holding Lower House elections at the regional state level.
Regions such as Somaliland, Galmudug, and Southwest have already started holding their parliamentary elections.
However, there are fears that members of the armed forces want to take part.
In some regions, several candidates have complained that members of the armed forces have their preferred parliamentary candidates.
It’s against this background that the Court of the Armed Forces has spoken.
As per the court’s ruling, members of the country’s armed forces should not vie or campaign for any candidate.
Instead, they should remain neutral and ensure that security prevails around the country as delegates vote.
