Somali Minister Takes Part in Arab Media Awards in Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya – Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism for Somalia, Daud Aweis Jama, participated in the “Tripoli Media Days” award ceremony in Tripoli on Thursday alongside other Arab League information ministers.

The goal of the prestigious award was to acknowledge the press’s resilience and valuable contributions during Libya’s post-conflict reconstruction period.

Information ministers from throughout the Arab world, along with diplomats and notable figures, attended the ceremony which recognized journalists and media organizations that have significantly contributed to guiding Libya through years of instability toward recovery.

In his address to the assembly, Aweis conveyed the Federal Government of Somalia’s solidarity with the Libyan people. He welcomed the evident progress toward stability and development in the North African country, praising the media’s role in promoting national dialogue and social unity.

“Somalia celebrates Libya’s progress together with its people. We extend our best wishes for continued success and enduring stability to the Libyan government and citizens as they reconstruct their nation,” the Somali minister remarked.

The minister also emphasized the longstanding diplomatic ties between Mogadishu and Tripoli. He noted Somalia’s enthusiasm to enhance collaborative efforts between the two countries across multiple sectors.

Aweis referenced recent high-level diplomatic exchanges as proof of this commitment, highlighting President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s official visit to Libya in February 2025. This visit established the foundation for a new era of partnership, which this week’s event in Tripoli continues to strengthen.
