Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Somalia’s Minister for Justice and Constitution, Hassan Moallin, represented the Federal Government at the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Conference on Combating Illegal Asset Trafficking and Recovery, held in Jeddah from October 8 to 9, 2025.
The two-day summit brought together ministers, policymakers, and legal experts from across the region to strengthen cooperation in tracing, freezing, and repatriating illegally acquired assets. Somalia, a founding member of the MENA initiative, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional efforts that promote transparency, accountability, and financial integrity.
In his address, Moallin underscored the importance of collective regional action in combating corruption and illicit financial flows. He highlighted Somalia’s ongoing justice sector reforms and efforts to align national anti-corruption laws with international standards, emphasizing that asset recovery is key to ensuring good governance and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the summit, the minister held productive meetings with regional and international counterparts to enhance collaboration on justice and asset repatriation. Discussions focused on technical cooperation, capacity building, and strengthening coordination between judicial and law enforcement institutions.
The Jeddah conference concluded with a joint commitment by member states to intensify efforts against illegal asset trafficking and to foster a more transparent and accountable financial system across the MENA region.
