Somali Minister Issues One Condition for Normalizing Relations with Ethiopia

Somalia has issued the one condition that Ethiopia must meet before relations between the two nations are normalized.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Omar has emphasized that Somalia is open to normalizing relations with Ethiopia.

Omar said that relations will return to normalcy only if Ethiopia withdraws its controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland, the breakaway region.

In an interview with VOA Somali, he confirmed that recent Turkey-sponsored discussions focused on Ethiopia’s commercial access to Somali ports.

However, Omar stressed that before any agreements can move forward, Ethiopia must first acknowledge and respect Somalia’s sovereignty.

This condition underscores Somalia’s firm stance on its territorial integrity amidst ongoing regional dynamics.
