Somali Minister Meets Algerian President to Deliver Presidential Message

ALGIERS — The Algerian Head of State, H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, welcomed a high-level Somali delegation at the presidential palace on Thursday. The delegation was led by H.E. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, who served as a Special Envoy while holding his portfolio as the Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.

During the audience, the Somali envoy presented an official message from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to his Algerian counterpart. This exchange is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia to enhance relationships with key African nations. While the specific contents of the message remain confidential, the meeting underscores the diplomatic connections between the two capitals and the emphasis on high-level collaboration regarding shared interests.

The delegation included prominent officials, such as the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Ali Omar (Ali Balcad), and Somalia’s Ambassador to Algeria, H.E. Yusuf Jeego. The composition of the team reflects the priority Mogadishu assigns to its relationship with Algiers, a significant actor in both the African Union and the Arab League.

Algerian officials from the presidential office and cabinet also participated in the discussions. Attendees included Mr. Boualem Boualem, Presidential Cabinet Director, and Mr. Amar Abba, Presidential Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs. The presence of the Algerian Minister of National Education, Mr. Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, highlighted the multifaceted nature of the engagement, which covered both diplomatic and educational collaboration.
