Somali MP Blasts President Mohamud for Using Patriotism to Evade Scrutiny

Mogadishu — Somali Member of Parliament Sadiq Abdullahi Abdi has sharply criticized Villa Somalia for what he called the misuse of “nationalist rhetoric” to deflect from critical governance and accountability challenges.

In a pointed statement, Abdi warned that such rhetoric risks fueling anti-foreign sentiment and distorting public understanding of Somalia’s sovereignty.

“Using patriotism as a shield against scrutiny is not leadership,” he said. “It’s misleading and dangerous.”

He underscored the value of respectful and cooperative international partnerships — especially through frameworks like the C6+ group of donors — calling them vital to Somalia’s security, recovery, and global standing.

His comments come amid increasing public debate over Somalia’s diplomatic direction and transparency in governance.
