Somali Muslims Celebrate the Hajj Festival

Muslims in Somalia joined their colleagues around the world in celebrating the Eid Al-Adha festival on Friday.

The festival, which is also known as Idd-Ul-Hajj or simply Hajj, is part of the celebrations marking the end of the Mecca pilgrimage.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of Somalia joined other leaders in congratulating members of the public over the Hajj celebrations.

In Mogadishu, Muslims gathered at the iconic Masjidka Isbaheysiga Mosque, which is also called the Mogadishu Central Mosque.

During the Hajj celebrations, Muslims dress in new clothes. They also slaughter and eat goats, cows, camels, and sheep.

The meat from the slaughtered animals is shared amongst family and friends. The needy also get a portion of the meat to eat.

Hajj is the second biggest festival in the Muslim calendar after Eid Ul-Fitr. It usually falls on the tenth day of the third month after celebrating Ramadhan.
