Somali Nationals Among Deportees from the US Stranded in Panama

Somalia has confirmed that some of its citizens are among the individuals deported by the United States and currently stranded in Panama.

These Somali nationals were deported to Panama under an agreement between the U.S. and Panamanian governments, intended as a stopover for migrants from countries that are more challenging for the U.S. to deport to directly.

Upon arrival, they were granted 30-day visas but lack means to return home, and Somalia does not have an embassy in Panama to assist them.

Panamanian authorities have provided temporary accommodation and are collaborating with international organizations to facilitate their return.

Somali officials are working to support their stranded citizens during this period.
