Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Defence in Somalia’s federal government, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, attended a graduation ceremony in Ankara where a new group of Somali officers completed advanced training at the National Defence University’s War College in Türkiye.
The officers specialized in land, air, and naval studies, equipping them with the expertise to enhance the Somali National Army’s (SNA) capabilities in safeguarding the nation and advancing stability.
Their return marks a significant step in Somalia’s efforts to professionalize its security forces and strengthen its defense institutions.
Fiqi praised the achievement as a milestone in Somalia’s military cooperation with Türkiye, noting that the training is vital to the ongoing security transition as international peacekeeping forces gradually withdraw.
He emphasized that the graduates will be instrumental in leading operations to protect Somalia’s sovereignty and maintain peace.
Türkiye remains one of Somalia’s strongest defense partners, offering military training, capacity building, and strategic support through initiatives such as the TURKSOM academy in Mogadishu. This latest graduation reinforces the long-standing partnership and shared commitment to building a resilient Somali security sector.
The Ankara ceremony not only celebrated the graduates’ accomplishments but also underscored the deepening ties between Somalia and Türkiye in fostering regional peace and stability.
